New Azure SQL Database free offer

Azure has announced the public preview of a new Azure SQL Database free offer. The offer includes a fully featured Azure SQL serverless database with 100,000 vCore seconds of compute and 32 GB of storage, plus 32 GB of backup storage per month. This offer is available to new Azure customers and existing customers looking to add another database. The supported regions for the server are East US, West Central US, and UK South. Users can choose between 0.5 vCore to 4 vCore with the free amount and scale up or down as needed. If the free amount is exhausted before the end of the month, users have the option to let the database auto-pause and resume with a new free amount, or continue usage mode for additional charges. In continue usage mode, users can scale up to 80 vCores and 4 terabytes of storage. Existing data, schema, settings, and connections can be seamlessly transitioned from free to paid usage. Usage and costs can be monitored from the Azure portal using new metrics. This offer is suitable for students, developers, small business owners, and enterprise customers looking for a fully featured Azure SQL database. It can be used for developing new apps, learning SQL, or migrating apps to Azure. The Azure SQL Database free offer provides a cloud-native relational database service with high availability, performance, security, scalability, and compatibility with SQL Server. To learn more and get started, users can visit the Azure SQL Database documentation and create an Azure SQL Database resource from the Azure portal.
