Microsoft Teams Activity Feed Notifications with Resource-specific Content Permissions

Microsoft Teams activity feed notifications allow users to stay up to date with important information and tasks within the Teams app. With the activity feed notification APIs in Microsoft Graph, developers can extend this functionality to their own apps, providing richer experiences and better user engagement.

In the Public Preview starting on August 22nd, 2023, Microsoft is introducing Resource-specific Consent (RSC) permissions for the notification APIs. RSC is an authorization framework provided by Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Identity platform that allows for granting scoped access to an app. These RSC application permissions are always enabled at the tenant level, removing the need for tenant admin consent.

Activity feed notifications provide several advantages for app developers and users. They integrate seamlessly into the Teams app, bringing additional user engagement from the Activity feed to your app. Users receive notifications on both the Teams desktop and mobile clients, grabbing their attention with system pop-ups and sounds. The content of the notifications can be customized, giving users a preview of the events being notified. Deep linking to your app from a notification increases user engagement and brings them directly to the relevant content or action.
